Suspected drunk driver leaves strip club, slams into Michigan deputy on I-96

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office said the patrol vehicle was a total loss.

EATON COUNTY, Mich. — Authorities said a suspected drunk driver sideswiped a deputy stopped for an accident along I-96 Wednesday night.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office said the wreck happened Thursday around 11:40 p.m. on westbound I-96 and Mt. Hope.

A fully marked Eaton County Deputy in a patrol SUV with lights on was blocking lanes on the highway for a semi that lost control going into the median when a driver sideswiped the law enforcement vehicle.

The driver was leaving a strip club before the person crashed into the sheriff's patrol vehicle, WLNS reported.

Law enforcement said the driver was taken to an area hospital to get checked out. The patrol vehicle was a total loss.

Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash, authorities said.

The sheriff's department shared an in-car video of the wreck, which shows the car slam into the side of the squad car and then into the ditch off the side of the highway.
