CLINTON COUNTY, Mich. — Two people are dead and 14 others are wounded after a car hit a group of pedestrians in Clinton County over the weekend.
Deputies say the crash happened Saturday around 6:30 p.m. on S Wacousta Road near Corrison Road in Watertown Township.
A group of pedestrians, later determined to be family, was walking along the shoulder of the road when a car hit them. The car then drove off.
Two people were declared dead at the scene—a 30-year-old Grand Haven man and a 42-year-old Grand Ledge man. A total of 14 others were taken to hospitals for treatment, including eight children.
Deputies say eight people have since been released. Six remain in the hospital at this time, including one person in critical condition.
The driver of the car, who was stopped by deputies a few miles from the crash, has been identified as a 35-year-old woman from the Perrinton area. She has been lodged at the Clinton County Jail and is expected to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
This crash remains under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
