Where does Michigan rank in safest states for truck drivers?

MICHIGAN, USA — Buckle up to hear some newly released statistics, Michigan. A study shows the mitten stands among the safest states for truck drivers.

The study analyzed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 2022, taking into account the number of deaths per billion miles driven by heavy trucks. It was put together by Florida personal injury attorneys Fasig Brooks.

Vermont heads the list of the most dangerous place to drive a truck, with 8.96 trucker deaths per billion miles. That puts it 250% above the national average.

  1. Vermont - 8.96 deaths per billion miles, +250% above national average
  2. New Mexico - 7.06 deaths per billion miles, +176% above national average
  3. Wyoming - 5.88 deaths per billion miles, +130% above national average
  4. Nebraska - 5.35 deaths per billion miles, +109% above national average
  5. Hawaii - 4.10 deaths per billion miles, +60% above national average
  6. Pennsylvania - 3.82 deaths per billion miles, +49% above national average
  7. Kansas - 3.67 deaths per billion miles, +43% above national average
  8. North Carolina - 3.52 deaths per billion miles, +38% above national average
  9. Oklahoma - 3.39 deaths per billion miles, +32% above national average
  10. Georgia - 3.28 deaths per billion miles, +28% above national average

Thankfully, Michigan does not make that list. It does make an appearance on the list of top 10 safest states.

Michigan is ranked fourth, with .95 trucker fatalities per billion miles. That sets us 63% below the national average. 

Delaware, though, takes the top safety spot. They have just .5 deaths per billion miles, which is 80% below the national average.
