New information and video released from Berrien County courthouse shooting

Gordon struggled with Deputy James Atterberry Jr. and grabbed the deputy's gun.  Gordon then opened fire, injuring Atterberry.

There is chilling new video inside the Berrien County courthouse during a deadly shooting on July 11th.

The video shows the frantic response to stop the gunman and the tense standoff as shots rang out.
It comes as investigators released a timeline on Friday of how the events unfolded.

One video from inside courtroom 315 shows the calm turn to chaos. On the screen, Bailiff Ron Kienzle is seen running toward the danger while others would eventually run away, or hide. Then the sound of gunshots are heard.

"You'll hear 'No, no, no, don't shoot', followed by a gun shot," says Lt. Greg Sanders with the Berrien County Sheriff's Department.

That's when Ron Kiensle is believed to have been shot and killed. Moments later, Security Director Joe Zangaro calls for help on the third floor.

"He activates and unlocks the door leading back to that area and, from a witness, is shot within seconds, fatally shot," says Lt. Sanders.

From a different camera angle, we see another responding bailiff come face to face with a handcuffed and armed Larry Gordon. Gordon would then run to a corner and take 8 hostages. Then we hear several loud banging sounds.

"He's commanding one of the hostages to break down the door," says Lt. Sanders.

The video shows some of the hostages eventually getting away, but investigators say Gordon used one woman as a human shield. Officers approach and then more gunshots.

"You do hear a female hostage explain she'd been shot also," says Lt. Sanders.

After two more gunshots, the confrontation is over.

"Larry Gordon is hit at that point and falls back," says Lt. Sanders.

All of it unfolded within minutes. Less than two weeks later, we've also learned about a letter found in Gordon's jail dorm written to his ex-wife and young daughter. He apologizes and says he's not going to prison. At one point the letter reads, " I'm not trying to die and I don't want to. I'm just trying to get free and I'll die trying".
