COVERT, Mich. — The Palisades Power Plant in Covert, Mich. has restarted operations after completing a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage.
The shutdown started in October.
This was the 26th refueling in the plant's history. During the outage, about one-third of the fuel in the reactor was replaced and equipment was inspected and replaced.
The plant is owned by New Orleans-based Entergy Corp., which plans to close it in 2022.
This was the second-to-last refueling outage at the Palisades before the plant is permanently shut down.
The power plant has been generating electricity since 1971. It generates enough electricity to power more than 800,000 homes.
