CADILLAC, Mich. — Michigan State Police in northern Michigan appear to have a homicide case in their hands.
Last week on Tuesday, Feb. 20, someone called the Cadillac Post to report a missing 55-year-old man.
Investigators said the man's truck, his dog, phone and other personal items were still at his Cadillac home.
Detectives searched his property and found an area behind the house where the ground had recently been disturbed.
Once investigators secured a search warrant, they excavated the area finding large chunks of burnt wood, tires, remnants of burnt clothing and a piece of apparent flesh.
With more search warrants in hand, the Michigan State Police Grayling Crime Lab excavated the hole to look for more evidence.
Lab personnel and detectives then found a body.
Because of charring and facial distortion, authorities said they weren't able to identify the person.
Detectives are now awaiting autopsy results.
Law enforcement was able to recover the victim's phone as well as digital evidence from the home recording system.
Authorities believe they have two suspects linked to the crime already in custody for unrelated charges.
Both people, who are not being identified, were staying with the victim before he disappeared.
Investigators continue to interview witnesses.
