Special Olympics Michigan launches Summer Games with their opening ceremony

Let the games begin!

The Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games are officially underway.

The opening ceremony was held on Thursday night, May 31 in Mt. Pleasant.

More than 2,900 children and adults with intellectual disabilities attended the ceremony at the Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Central Michigan University's campus.

At the ceremony, Spartan Nash, a partner of the summer games, presented a check for $165,000.

The games will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, June 1-2 at CMU's campus.
