Microsoft buys massive plot of Kent Co. land

Economic leaders from the Grand Rapids region say it's one step toward making the area a leading tech hub in the Midwest.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Microsoft is planning to open an office in Kent County, complete with a 316-acre plot.

The land is located in Gaines Charter Township, beside the intersection of Patterson Avenue and 76th Street SE. They purchased the plot from Steelcase, Crains Business Journal says

The Right Place, a Grand Rapids area economic development agency, helped Microsoft make the decision.

“The opportunity ahead with Microsoft fits into our 10-year tech strategy to develop the Greater Grand Rapids region into a leading tech hub in the Midwest. With one of the leading tech companies in the world taking notice, we’re well on our way there,” said Randy Thelen, President and CEO of The Right Place.

The exact use of the plot is unknown at this time, but The Right Place says it's for a potential data center.
