GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Chicago-based mini golf bar plans to open a third location in the heart of Grand Rapids by mid-September. The bar aims to bring a unique experience to those looking to enjoy mini golf all year round.
Big Mini Putt Club will have nine holes designed by owner Nick Jenkins. Each party going through the course is expected to take about 45 minutes. Locally crafted beer and cocktails can also be enjoyed while making your way through the course.
"We have a shop on the west side of Chicago where we frame all the holes ourselves," Jenkins said. "So we frame the holes... bring them on site, and then we do all the finished work. That's where the fun and the magic really happens."
Jenkins is excited to immerse his business into the culture of Grand Rapids. He told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that he chose the city for its outdoor lifestyle and community.
Jenkins aims to bring a feeling of warmth and a "summer all year long vibe" to his shop.
"When we looked at other spots, we saw Grand Rapids as an active lifestyle city," Jenkins said. "They still want to go out and do things in the winter, even though, unfortunately, you can't be outside unless you bundle up appropriately."
The mini golf bar is set to open just in time for ArtPrize, the city's popular annual art competition. Big Mini Putt Club will have two mural submissions.
Big Mini Putt Club's family-friendly hours are expected to be 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. After 6 p.m., admission is 21+.
