HUDSONVILLE, Michigan — The West Michigan faith community is mourning the loss of three missionaries killed in a crash in Kenya Wednesday.
Kenya Hope, a Hudsonville-based ministry that provides support for women and children in Kenya, said Executive Directors Dave and Joy Mueller as well as Julie Holman died in a crash.
Holman is the daughter of a US Director of the organization, and she had just passed her board certification to become a licensed nurse practitioner. She was working with Kenya Hope to evaluate medical facilities and administer vaccines.
The Muellers have served Kenya Hope for the last 13 years, and have a long history of missionary work across the globe.
They've helped provide fresh water wells, education, food relief and more to those in need in the Nairobi and Narok areas of Kenya with the organization.
"Dave and Joy will be remembered as missionaries who worked both faithfully and tirelessly to help others who were in need and spread the gospel of Christ. While they will be greatly missed by our organization, I know they have a place in heaven for a life well-served” Eric Hoogstra, Chairman of the Kenya Hope Board said.
"Dave and Joy were true missionaries. Dave was able to fix anything. Dave took broken down, wells, put new solar pumps in, did everything with these things. He was he could fix anything. Joy could probably cure anything and solve anything with what she had. And they were, for many years doing so much with so little. And it's just amazingly what they accomplished."
Because all three were in Kenya at the time of the crash, funeral arrangements will not be immediate.
Kenya Hope asked the community for prayers and support during this time of grief.
