Woman dead, multiple others injured in Fairplain Township crash

Deputies said the impact of the crash caused the engine of the Chrysler to dislodge from the vehicle.

MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. — One person is dead and three others are injured after a crash in Fairplain Township on Thursday evening, according to the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office. 

Around 10 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a crash on South Sheridan Road near Boyer Road. 

According to MCSO, the preliminary investigation showed that a 2008 Audi, driven by a 25-year-old West Bloomfield man, was traveling northbound on South Sheridan Road when it attempted to pass another northbound vehicle. 

Deputies said while the Audi was attempting to pass the other vehicle, it crashed head-on into a southbound 2016 Chrysler 200 being driven by a 21-year-old man from Ionia. 

The passenger in the Audi, a 19-year-old Greenville woman, died in the crash, deputies said. 

MCSO said the drivers of the Audi and the Chrysler were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The passenger in the Chrysler, a 15-year-old boy from Alma, was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said the woman who died in the crash wasn't wearing her seatbelt, but all other involved individuals were believed to be wearing theirs. 

The impact of the crash caused the engine of the Chrysler to be ejected from it. 

The crash is under investigation.
