ZEELAND, Mich — Bringing a French themed creperie is a dream come true for La Crème owner Kim De Young. This dream also came as a leap of faith as she closed her frozen yogurt business to transform it into the Parisian restaurant you see today.
“People kept saying ‘Why crepes,’” she said. “There were a lot of questions and we tried to make it clear that we were offering something new that nobody else had in the area.”
De Young enlisted the help of her daughter’s friend, who just so happened to be a crepe artist. The two combined a look and taste that allows patrons to slip away into feeling like they’re enjoying a meal in a big city.
“When they come in, they feel like they’re not in this area,” she explained. “They say ‘I feel like I’m in New York City or Chicago.’ That was the goal – to bring something really fresh."
Freshness is not something that is lacking at La Crème. They offer 16 different crepes, eight each of the savory or sweet variety. And just because they no longer sell frozen yogurt, that doesn’t mean you can’t find a cold treat there. You can now grab gelato to go with your meal.
The Caprese crepe boasts a boatload of flavor, combining tender chicken with tomato and caramelized onion. The basil and fontina cheese give it a perfect punctuation as you finish each bite.
You can visit La Crème at 111 East Main Street in Zeeland. Their hours:
Monday – Wednesday: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Thursday – Saturday: 8 a.m. -8 p.m
Closed on Sunday.
