BARRY COUNTY, Mich. — The Barry County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a fatal crash occurred Wednesday at the intersection of 9 Mile Rd. and LaFountaine Dr. in Orangeville Twp.

The sheriff's office said their initial investigation shows a motorcycle was traveling westbound on 9 Mile Rd. at a high rate of speed when it collided with a van that was turning on to 9 Mile Rd. from LaFountaine Dr.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 34-year-old man from Plainwell, was ejected from the motorcycle and was found unresponsive. First responders attempted life-saving efforts. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van, a 72-year-old woman from Plainwell, was not injured. A 52-year-old Plainwell man was also in the van and had minor injuries that first responders treated on scene.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash.
