'Armed and dangerous' man accused of firing shots at someone at large in Mount Pleasant area in custody

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Michigan State Police said a wanted shooting suspect in the Mount Pleasant area is in custody Tuesday morning. 

MSP had asked homeowners near the Mt. Pleasant Municipal Airport to lock their doors as they searched for an "armed and dangerous" suspect Monday afternoon. 

Troopers from the Mt. Pleasant Post said Leangel Sabatela-Rodriguez shot at another man and ran away from the area around 12:30 p.m.

Authorities said at the time there was a large police presence near Leaton and Airport Roads and the public was asked to avoid the area. 

The suspect, who stands 6'3" tall, was believed to be armed and dangerous. 

Anyone who lives in the Mt. Pleasant area of S. Leaton and Airport was asked to lock their doors and call 911 if they spotted him, police said.
