SHERIDAN, Michigan — Multiple agencies responded to a large fire at Leid Diesel Service in Sheridan early Saturday morning, according to the Sheridan Community Fire Department

The department said around 2:10 a.m. crews were dispatched to the business for a report of a structure fire.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, they said flames could be seen through the roof of the repair facility as well as in the office area.

Sheridan Fire Chief Brandon Stowell said the fire had spread throughout the main facility when crews got to the scene.

He said they were able to get the majority of the fire put out with handlines, but since the garage roof collapsed they couldn't get inside and needed help from Greenville's aerial crews.

The department said the office area and the attached primary garage facility received significant damage from the fire. However, crews were able to save an adjacent structure that had parts and supplies in it.

There was no one inside at the start of the fire and there were no injuries.

The department said they believe they know where the fire may have started. They said there's no immediate cause of the fire, nor is it believed to be suspicious.

The Stanton Community Fire Department, Ronald Township Fire Department, Montcalm Township Fire Department, Greenville Public Safety and Crystal Fire Department all aided in putting out the fire.

Employees from Leid Diesel Service also came to the scene after hearing about the fire to help however they could.

Stowell said it took about 30 firefighters across 6 departments and approximately 95,000 gallons of water to put the fire out.

Firefighters cleared the scene by 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
