Man turns himself in at Muskegon County Courthouse for committing August murder

Police said Deangelo Bolden-Sims was charged with the murder of Carrlos Piggee on Aug. 31, 2024.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — A man turned himself in on Wednesday for committing a murder in August, according to the Muskegon Police Department.

Police said Deangelo Bolden-Sims turned himself in at the Muskegon County Courthouse.

He's charged with the open murder of Carrlos Piggee on Aug. 31, 2024. He was given a $300,000 bond.

MPD thanked everyone who assisted in the case.

Anyone with more information on the incident should call the Muskegon Police Department at (231) 724-6750 or Silent Observer at (231) 722-7463.

The family of Piggee shared a statement with 13 ON YOUR SIDE:

"THANK YOU to everyone who worked tirelessly to help locate the defendant. Your support has meant the world to us during this incredibly difficult time. I feel a profound relief that the individual responsible for my husband’s death is in custody. It is my hope that everyone involved in helping him evade justice since August 31, 2024, will be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I pray that you never find yourselves in our position, one of immense, unspeakable pain.

We do not feel the bond amount set for the defendant in no way reflects the seriousness of the crime committed. To say we are disappointed by the court’s decision would be an understatement."

Matt Roberts, the Chief Trial Attorney at the Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office, said they were optimistic Bolden-Sims would turn up.

"We had been hopeful that he was either going to be picked up or that his attorney would get him turned in," Roberts said. "And certainly that came to fruition today, and he was able to be arraigned, and we'll start moving forward with the process of prosecuting Mr. Boldenson for this homicide. "

Roberts also said that because of the case's complexity, it's not uncommon that it took this long to locate Bolden-Sims.

"This was a more complex investigation that involved talking to multiple individuals and getting statements from those individuals before we were actually able to identify Mr. Bolden Sims and issue the charges," Roberts said. "And then once the charges are issued, it's really up to either that person to be found by the police or that person to turn themselves in, depending on the circumstances."
