MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich — A Muskegon County man died while working underground on Wednesday evening, the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said.
Deputies were called to an address on Holton-Duck Lake Road where a 73-year-old man was working in a five-foot-deep hole.
MCSO said he was trying to install an underground line for a chicken coop.
Police are unsure if he crawled in or fell, but he was unable to get out, deputies report. That's when he suffered an apparent medical emergency and passed away.
An investigation is still underway as the medical examiner makes their way to the scene.
