Sheriff: Muskegon Co. man dies while working in 5 foot hole

Deputies said the man had been working in a five-foot-deep hole to install an underground line for a chicken coop.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich — A man died while working underground in Cedar Creek on Wednesday evening, the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said.

At 4:12 p.m. deputies were called to the 4300 block of Holton-Duck Lake Road for a medical emergency. 

According to MCSO, the caller said she found her 73-year-old husband unresponsive while fixing a waterline outside. 

Deputies said the man had been working in a five-foot-deep hole to install an underground line for a chicken coop. 

MCSO is unsure if he crawled in or fell, but deputies report he could not get out. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
