MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — A man was arrested after a slew of alleged crimes across Muskegon and Kent counties early Tuesday morning, Muskegon Heights Police say.

It started at 12:57 a.m. when Muskegon dispatchers heard about a shooting in the 200 block of East Sherman. The caller said a man was shot in the arm and side by the caller's ex-partner.

When police arrived, they found a 48-year-old Muskegon Heights man with numerous gunshot wounds and a 33-year-old Kent County woman with one gunshot wound.

First responders rendered aid while investigators were able to identify a suspect and their vehicle from witness statements. They put out a broadcast to other officers to keep a lookout.

Shortly after, Michigan State Police Troopers from the Grand Rapids Post spotted the car on Apple Avenue. Police attempted to pull them over, but they drove off. A chase ensued.

The chase continued into Kent County, where troopers deployed stop sticks. It caused the driver, a 57-year-old man, to crash at the intersection of Algoma and Wiersma NE in Solon Township. The man continued refusing to comply with troopers and stayed in his vehicle.

After about three and a half hours of negotiations, police say he surrendered and was taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out, then turned over to Muskegon Heights Police.

He is now lodged at Muskegon County Jail. Police are submitting a warrant request for several felony charges.

His arraignment date is yet to be announced.
