RUMMAGE REVIVAL | Yard sale event held in Muskegon to benefit Big Lake Humane Society

The rummage sale included rows of booths, a mimosa bar and adoptable dogs.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Hot Rod Harley Davidson in Muskegon hosted a community yard sale on Saturday to help raise money for the Big Lake Humane Society

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. booths were lined up and filled with clothes, decorations and more at the Rummage Revival

Starting at 10 a.m., TNT Bar hosted a "Build Your Own Mimosa Bar."

There were also adoptable dogs at the sale.

The booth fee was $20 for a 10x10 space and $30 for a 12x12 space, all of which went to BLHS.

The Executive Director of BLHS, Alexis Robertson, said Hot Rod Harley Davidson has animal lovers on their team who reached out to BLHS looking for a way to support them.

"I always like to partner with the nonprofits. It makes me feel good to do something. People want to give, sometimes they just don't know how or what to do, or how to do it," said Melissa Jolman, the controller for Hot Rod Harley Davidson.

Soon enough, the Rummage Revival was born.

"Hot Rod Harley has such a heart for the community," Robertson said. "They do a lot of events locally and connect with other organizations too. So it's really cool that they decided to choose us for their animal welfare organization."

Robertson said the shelter has had a very fulfilling year, but also a financially difficult one.

"We have a great team and we have each other's back," Robertson said. "I've also had counselors come and speak to us about compassion, fatigue and losses and difficulties that come with this. So it's a lot to balance, but we're all here because we have a passion for it."

She said they're always at capacity but have been focusing on their community outreach programs that help vaccinate, spay and neuter pets as well as provide pet food to families in need.

BLHS Shelter Manager Velvet Lyght said the money raised at the event is important for them to be able to continue to fund the work they're doing.

"It'll be exciting for any kind of donation. I mean, every little bit helps and it adds up over time," said Lyght.
