Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park excited for snow

The popular winter sports park is set to share the magic of the season with Michiganders.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — After an almost snowless December, the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park is ready for the winter weather this weekend.

Beginning Friday morning, much of West Michigan will experience near-blizzard conditions with heavy snow accumulation lasting through Saturday afternoon. You can stay up to date with the forecast here.

And while many Michiganders are preparing for the winter weather, Muskegon Luge is also working to get the park ready for visitors.

"We're gonna work around the clock, we have to groom with the storm, not after the storm. So we'll be maintaining the facilities. Our first venues to open will be our cross country ski trails and our snowshoe trails, both which are lighted, so there'll be plenty of opportunity, even in the evening hours for folks to come out and enjoy this magic of winter that's upon us," said Jim Rudicil, executive director of the Muskegon Luge.

Not all of the park's attractions will be available right away, but with temperatures predicted to be below freezing, the ice-based attractions could be up and running soon.

"Our ice sports, with the luge track and the ice skating rinks, and the ice wall. Those take time to get that ice level and flat and frozen in. So we're working, we always have to balance it with what Mother Nature is providing. So we'll be on the job for the next several days," Rudicil said.

Muskegon Luge is a non-profit organization that depends on support from visitors and donors in the community.

"Our organization's nonprofit mission is to really just get people outside and enjoy Mother Nature. Disconnect, you know, from technology a little bit and kind of get your head right. And this is a great spot to do that. And this is truly a facility that's built by the community for the community," Rudicil said.

Muskegon Luge provides daily updates on conditions at the park, which you can see here. You can also follow their Facebook page for updates here.

Prices for the park vary on the activities you plan on doing, you can find a complete list of prices, including season passes, here.
