Officials say woman evacuated children before setting home on fire, now facing arson charge

According to Matt Roberts, Chief Trial Attorney for Muskegon County, Kristina Edwards is in jail and was charged with arson and home invasion.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — The Muskegon Home that Kristina Edwards is accused of setting on fire last Thursday is now boarded up. The smell of the fire is still lingering on McIlwraith Street.

According to Matt Roberts, Chief Trial Attorney for Muskegon County,  Edwards is in jail and was charged with arson and home invasion.

While no one was hurt, Roberts said Edwards' children were at the home.

"Her children were inside the house," said Roberts. "She got the children outside of the house prior to setting the fire. So this is some sort of estranged or ex-type situation where the children were staying with the, with their father, who was the owner of the house."

The motive behind the Arson has not yet been released. However, Roberts said that Edwards' does have a prior criminal record.

"She is currently on probation for assault with a dangerous weapon, so obviously she could be facing a potential probation violation for this conduct as well," said Roberts.

Edwards could face life in prison if found guilty. Her bond was set at $250,000.
