Muskegon distillery going up for sale

The business originally wanted to be part of transforming downtown Muskegon, revitalizing an old bank. They served small-batch liquors and wood-fired pizza.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — A Muskegon distillery is shutting its doors after seven years, the owners announced via Facebook.

They say the decision was not made lightly and was not a reflection of their success as a business.

"The truth is, owning and operating a restaurant while also working full-time jobs has been a rewarding but exhausting journey," they wrote.

The four partners opening the 18th Amendment Spirits Company spent more than a year finalizing permits and licensing back in 2017. Much of that time was also spent transforming the former Muskegon Savings and Loan Bank building.

The building was once part of the Muskegon Mall and was saved during demolition. Drinks were served from an authentic Brunswick bar that was built in the late 1800s that the owners found in Colorado.

The distillery offered small-batch vodka, clear rum, bourbon, rye whiskey and gin. They also served wood-fired specialty pizza, salads and meat and cheese plates.

Interviewed by 13 ON YOUR SIDE in their inaugural year, owners said they wanted to be part of the transformation of Muskegon's downtown and offer a product that's becoming more and more popular around the state and country. The distillery brought 20 jobs to downtown Muskegon in 2017.

"We’ve loved every moment of serving this incredible community, but we feel that it’s time to pass the torch to someone who can dedicate the attention this place deserves," owners said. "We ask that you continue to support us during this transition and, most importantly, remain positive."
