MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Muskegon County Jail inmate's death last April has been ruled "natural" in manner.
The Muskegon County Sheriff's Office released the results of the autopsy report on Wednesday, May 22. The inmate, Paul Douglas Bulthouse, was found dead in a detoxification cell on April 4.
The sheriff's office says Bulthouse was brought to the jail for a probation violation and placed in a detox cell. He was alone in the cell, which is designed to allow continuous monitoring by jail staff.
The completed autopsy report was sent to the sheriff's office on May 21. The report determined Bulthouse's death was caused by a prolonged seizure. The autopsy also says factors such as hypertension and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease combined with chronic alcohol use caused Bulthouse's death. The manner is listed at "natural."
