From being a suspected kidnapper to a suspected killer, police are looking at every detail regarding Jeffrey Willis.
Investigators want to know why Willis had so much information about a Muskegon County woman on his computer, and inside his home. The information was found during a search of the South Sheridan home.
"He seemed to be obsessed with a particular lady," said Dean Roesler, Muskegon County Sheriff. "At this point in time we have not come across any other women who would fall into that category as far as having stalked them."
Muskegon County is receiving help from Michigan State Police detectives to thoroughly search Willis' computers.
Roesler says police informed the woman this week. Roesler says he's not aware of any information Willis collecting information on Rebekah Bletsch. "There is nothing that I have been made aware of that leads us to believe he was stalking her in any way, shape, or form," said Roesler.
It will take weeks and months to completely review Willis' past. He's from Fruitport, and has lived in Muskegon County for most of his 46-years. Police will talk with everyone from high school friends who were still in recent contact with him. Police are also seeking information on Willis from employees of the Herman Miller facility in Spring Lake where Willis was employed.
The sheriff's department is reviewing old cases in the county, including the death of Angela Thornburg. Her body was found by a hunter in 1996 near Fruitport. "Just because of circumstances and location it's worth taking a look," said Roesler. Her exact cause of death was never determined.
Police agencies from outside Muskegon County are also asking about Willis. Michigan State Police are coordinating those injuries.
"Well I guess it is to be expected when you come across a suspect of this nature," said Roesler.
Willis is a "person of interest" in the disappearance of Jessica Heeringa three years ago. That's all police in Norton Shores are saying about him.
In the city of Muskegon police records don't show any contact with Willis. But Director of Public Safety Jeffrey Lewis says detectives will review old cases just in case.
"Any type of case, an abduction case, kidnapping case, a homicide case that is open, you always in any and all cases you look for similarities.," said Lewis.
Willis remains in the Muskegon County jail on a one-million dollar bond.
Willis was scheduled to be in court on June second for a preliminary hearing on the kidnapping charge, but at the request of his public defender that hearing has been adjourned.
No new date has been set.
