Deputies investigating attempted abduction in Muskegon County

Deputies in Muskegon County are investigating a report of an attempted abduction of a 16-year-old girl.  Investigators say the girl was attempting to walk home and became lost.

Deputies in Muskegon County are investigating a report of an attempted abduction of a 16-year-old girl.

Investigators say the girl was attempting to walk home and became lost.

She told told deputies that she was walking on W. River Rd. near Green Creek Rd. shortly before 9:30 a.m. Saturday. That's when a silver minivan stopped, the driver offered to let her use his cell phone. When she got in the van, the driver drove off and wouldn't let her use the phone.

She asked to be let out, but the driver locked the doors and kept going.

She says the driver then reached for what she thought was a handgun, at that time the girl unlocked the door and jumped out of the moving vehicle onto Green Creek Rd. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The suspect is white male in his 30’s or 40’s slightly overweight with brown hair, beard, and mustache that were neatly trimmed.

Police believe other vehicles were in the area when the attempted abduction happened.
