Three Muskegon area men who helped bring marijuana and so-called “hippie drugs’’ into West Michigan were sentenced this week to lengthy stints in federal prison.

The trio were indicted in October for conspiring to distribute MDMA, LSD and marijuana over a two-year period.

MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy or Molly, is a popular club drug. LSD, also known as acid, is a popular recreational drug that gained prominence during the 1960s.

The so-called “hippie drugs’’ were brought to Muskegon from the Lansing area, court records show.

They were also accused of conspiring to distribute more than 100 pounds of marijuana, federal court documents show.

The trio appeared for sentencing this week before U.S. District Court Judge Gordon J. Quist. They are:

Jason Yarranton, 30. The certified Pedorthist was sentenced to six years in prison followed by three years of supervised release;

Nicholas Mines, 22. He was sentenced to seven years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

Jacob Swain, 24. He received a 6-½ year prison term to be followed by three years on supervised release.

All faced up to 20 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine.

A fourth man, Johnathan Houseman, is scheduled to go to trial in mid-May.
