UPDATE: The charges against Twining included possession of a firearm as a felon, assaulting of a police officer and a domestic violence charge against his former spouse.

An alcohol-fueled domestic dispute led to an hours-long search for a suspect, police say.

It ultimately ended with an arrest Sunday, July 31. Jail records identify the suspect as Elijah Twining, 34. He's expected to appear in court Monday, Aug. 1, on a weapons charge.

Officers Sunday morning closed off a section of West Southern Avenue near Division Street while police with tactical gear entered a home.

Police were dispatched to the area late Saturday on a report of a drunk, 34-year-old man who allegedly fired a gun while arguing with a 35-year-old woman, according to a Muskegon Police Department news release. The man has a prior relationship with the woman.

She was able to flee and call 911, police said. She was not hurt.

Police believed the man did not leave the area, and they've been trying to contact him by phone, the news release states. Twining allegedly made comments on social media in regards to the police situation.

"Turning myself inn (sic)," one message reads.

Neighbors in the 800-900 block of West Southern Avenue were asked to stay indoors until the scene cleared.

Several Muskegon police cars responded in the neighborhood, including multiple Michigan State Police vehicles.
