Heavy snow, slick roads cause slide-offs in Muskegon County

A glance at the Michigan Department of Transportation's traffic map shows stop-and-go speeds west of Grand Rapids on I-96.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — If you have to be out and about on the roads this Halloween, take it nice and slow. 

Road conditions west of Grand Rapids in Ottawa County and into Muskegon County are slick as snow continues to fall. 

A 13 ON YOUR SIDE Viewer shared a video of multiple slide-offs along I-96 westbound.

Consumers Energy reports nearly 25,000 customers are without power in Muskegon County as of 4 p.m. Tuesday. 

Power officials say the weather is to blame. Heavy snow and wind are impacting power lines.

Both North Muskegon and Muskegon postponed door-to-door trick-or-treating due to safety concerns.

Snowfall totals will vary depending on your location. One to 3 inches is likely across the areas in dark blue and pink.

SNOW FORECAST - STORM TOTAL

There will likely be an isolated spot of 3"+ of snowfall. The '+' indicates that there could be totals higher than 3 inches. Likely closer to 6 inches in isolated locations in Muskegon and Oceana Co.

Oceana, Newaygo, Muskegon and Ottawa County are all under a Winter Weather Advisory until 12 a.m. It's the first of the season.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY

Dynamics look strong enough to bump up snowfall totals for Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana Co.  

Snow will struggle to stick at first, but the rate of snow for locations under the advisory will continue to overcome the warm ground temperatures, bringing some impacts. Bridges and overpasses will become slick and visibility will likely be reduced at times.
