MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Little ghouls and goblins will have to wait just a little while longer to go door-to-door for trick-or-treating in Muskegon County this week.
The City of Muskegon, North Muskegon, Montague and Muskegon Heights all postponed outdoor trick-or-treating on Halloween evening due to unsafe conditions. Downed power lines, heavy snow, dangerous driving conditions and other safety concerns prompted city officials to call it off.
Trick-or-treating was rescheduled to Wednesday, Nov. 1, but those same conditions remain.
The cities of Muskegon, Muskegon Heights and North Muskegon have all pushed back trick-or-treating to Saturday, Nov. 4 from 6 p.m.
This Halloween saw an unprecedented amount of snowfall along the lakeshore.
In Muskegon County, we saw numerous reports of 8" to 10" of snow. At the Muskegon County Airport, the snowfall total was 8.8'', a record for October 31, and the second-highest, single-day amount prior to November 15. On November 14, 1908, Muskegon received 16.0".
Because of that heavy snow and wind, hundreds of power lines were impacted, knocking out power to more than 43,000 Consumers Energy customers.
Crews are working hard to restore that power by the end of the day Wednesday.
