With an estimated 12,000 veterans living in Muskegon County, officials are aiming to cut back on wait times and serve more veterans in the area.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — A new $14 million outpatient VA will soon be accepting patients in Muskegon.

The Muskegon VA Outpatient Clinic will be opening its doors on Monday, June 24. The 27,300 square foot facility, which was funded through the Battle Creek VA Medical Center, is replacing the VA on Hakes Drive. The new clinic is over three times the size of the previous clinic.

“We are excited to introduce this new, modern facility to veterans in the Muskegon area,” said Executive Medical Center Director Michelle Martin. “The new space is dedicated to delivering exceptional care to our nation’s heroes.”

"I think the population will be impacted not just here in Muskegon County, but in the surrounding counties," said Sera Misner-Castaneda, vice president of WINC For All Women Veterans.. "We do have veterans coming from other counties to use our facilities."

The clinic currently offers primary care and mental health services. Officials hope to eventually expand into specialty services in the future.
