MUSKEGON, Mich. — To help those without power in Muskegon County, the Muskegon Township Hall will be open for anyone needing relief.

This includes those who need to cool off, charge their devices or get water. The hall will be open until 6 p.m., with a brief closure from 1 to 1:30 p.m. for staff to take a lunch break.

This follows Tuesday's severe storms that left widespread damage in Michigan, with Muskegon County being one of the hardest-hit areas. Many roads were impassable due to downed trees or wires. As of Wednesday morning, over 30% of the county is still without power.

Consumers Energy has hundreds of crews working to restore power, including crews from out-of-state. Officials say they hope to have power fully restored by Thursday night.

In the meantime, Consumers Energy is hosting two community events in Muskegon County on Wednesday. First, free water will be distributed from noon to 2 p.m. at Oakridge High School in Muskegon. Then, free snow cones will be given away from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Goodrich Park in Whitehall.

Muskegon Township Hall is at 1990 E Apple Avenue and will be open until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The hall was also open Tuesday after the storms. It is unclear if it will be open on Thursday.
