The Muskegon Winter Sports Complex announced Friday, March 3 that plans have been launched to transform the complex into a year-round attraction.
The parks' new five-year master plan has been approved by the Michigan State Parks advisory committee. The park's plan set forth steps in transforming the winter sports complex, which is located inside the Muskegon State Park, into a facility that people could use year-round.
The nonprofit organization's plans include adding a large multi-use pavilion, rock climbing area, expanded the lodge and add zip lines. There is also a plan for a hillside incline elevator that would make the luge track and future zip lines accessible for people with disabilities.
"Two-thousand foot runs off the top of our luge hill, secondly we are looking at a 20-thousand square foot open-air pavilion to compliment our ice skating," Jim Rudicil, Muskegon Winter Sports Complex Director says. "But also, to do events and family reunions and rollerblading and things like that in the summer and have covered space for our archery program."
Everything included in the five-year plan would cost at least $1.7 million which would be funded through grants and local fundraising efforts.
