Jeffrey Willis was arraigned on charges Wednesday, May 25, with homicide open murder and felony firearm in the 2014 death of jogger Rebekah Bletsch.
Bletsch was killed on June 29, 2014, near the intersection of Riley Thompson and Automobile Road in Muskegon County's Dalton Township.
According to sworn testimony given by Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson, shell casings at the scene where Bletsch was shot matched the gun found during a search of Willis' van. Hilson also Willis a "sick individual" but said he doesn't know of a motive in Bletsch's death.
Willis is also charged in connection with child pornography found during a search of his property last week.
Bond for Willis was denied because of the new charges. He currently is lodged in the Muskegon County Jail, charged with the mid-April kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl.
The charges comes after the sheriff's department tested a .22 caliber semiautomatic pistol found during their search of Willis's home last week.
Willis was in court Wednesday, May 18, and arraigned on numerous charges: kidnapping -- which carries a life sentence if convicted -- assault with a dangerous weapon and two other felony firearm charges. Police believe he is the perpetrator in a mid-April attempted abduction of a 16-year-old girl.
Norton Shores detectives are also looking for connections Willis may have to the gas station where Jessica Heeringa went missing. They know Willis passed the station on his way to and from work at Herman Miller in Spring Lake Township.
On Monday, Norton Shores police said Willis is now considered a person of interest in the Heeringa case.
Willis has requested a public defender to represent him.
