Officials: Syringes, restraints found in minivan of abduction suspect

Muskegon County prosecutor D.J. Hilson provided new evidence in court against attempted kidnapping suspect, including the disclosure of numerous objects found in his minivan.

Muskegon County prosecutor D.J. Hilson provided new evidence in court against attempted kidnapping suspect Jeffrey Willis, including the disclosure of numerous objects found in his minivan.

Willis was in court Wednesday, May 18, and arraigned on numerous charges: kidnapping -- which carries a life sentence if convicted -- assault with a dangerous weapon and two other felony firearm charges. Police believe he is the perpetrator in a mid-April attempted abduction of a 16-year-old girl.

Hilson told the judge Willis is a danger to society, adding that handcuffs were found in Willis' minivan as well as syringes.

The judge ordered Willis to remain in jail on a $1 million bond.

New search

Police spent most of the day Wednesday at a home owned by Willis' relatives in the 3000 block of Bailey Street, located between East Summit and East Cleveland avenues, following a neighbor's tip.

Records show the property is owned by a Pamela Willis, according to the Muskegon County Treasurer's Office. She is a relative of the suspect, and it is unclear if anyone currently lives at the home on Bailey Street, Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler said earlier.

Members of the Michigan State Police crime lab also are at the scene as well.

Jeffrey Willis was arrested Tuesday, May 17, in connection to the attempted abduction of a teen.

Jessica Heeringa links?

A neighbor who wished not to be named told WZZM 13's Jon Mills that she called the Jessica Heeringa tip line after news broke of Jeffrey Willis' arrest.

Jeffrey Willis' relatives had been disputing over ownership of the property, and the neighbor said the grandfather was its owner.

He died in 2011.

She recalls Jeffrey Willis parked in the driveway or in front of the home, sitting in his minivan for long periods of time, after his grandfather's death. Jeffrey Willis would sometimes leave and come back hours later, the neighbor said.

Roesler "very clearly, very plainly, very openly" said the following Tuesday: there has been no direct link found yet between the recent arrest and the April 2013 disappearance of Heeringa.
