MICHIGAN, USA — As many Michiganders head to the beach to soak up the last rays of Labor Day weekend sun, it's going to be safer to stay on the sand rather than head into the waves.
According to the National Weather Service Grand Rapids, for the rest of the holiday weekend at Lake Michigan the swim risk is going to be high due to strong waves and currents.
North winds will be blowing at 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
There will be waves four to eight feet high, with the highest waves Sunday afternoon being south of Holland.
However, all West Michigan beaches will be impacted.
NWS said the north sides of piers will be especially dangerous.
Michigan State Police said in a post on X that although the waves may look fun, it's not worth the risk.
