How one Grand Rapids company is making voting more accessible for people in wheelchairs

The Creative Mobility Group is offering the deal at locations across the state in Byron Center, Flint and Detroit.

BYRON CENTER, Mich. — If you're in need of a wheelchair-accessible ride to the polls come Election Day, the Creative Mobility Group in Byron Center wants to help ease that burden.

The accessible vehicle business is offering $1 wheelchair-accessible van rentals on Election Day for a period of four hours.

"It's really an effort just to remove barriers for wheelchair users to have a easy way to access their polling stations," explained Marketing Director Tommy Stowers.

Called the 'Roll to the Polls' initiative, Grand Rapids man and wheelchair-user David Covey said this is welcome news. He said arranging transportation when you use a wheelchair can be a huge headache.

"That's outstanding," said Covey.

He said getting out of the house can be difficult for people who use wheelchairs due to the need for extra time, planning, cost, equipment or even weather.

"It's a great offering to squash the whole notion that, well, I don't have the option to vote, I don't have the, I don't have the transportation to go."

The Creative Mobility Group is offering the deal at all locations in Byron Center, Flint and Detroit. For more information about the rental deal, click here.
