MUSKEGON, Mich — Debra Beavers hasn't had a place to live since a fire suppression pipe ruptured at Nelson Place Apartments in Muskegon on Christmas Eve.
"I just lost everything in my apartment," said Beavers. "It was. I never seen anything like it before."
She's been hopping from hotel to hotel since then and is running out of money. She adds that she can't keep that up much longer.
"I'm gonna be in the streets," said Beavers.
Video from just days after the pipe burst shows large holes in the ceilings and fans trying to air out the building.
"Me and a neighbor were gonna go downstairs, thinking we'll be okay," said Beavers. "(We were) going downstairs and all this water was just rushing down the stairs. And we just we just walked through it. I grabbed what I could and it was soaking wet because of the water."
Beavers did say that she was offered a place to go, but the apartment they wanted to put her in made her fear for her safety.
"I didn't want to go there," said Beavers. "I was a little scared. I'm on my own here. And so I'm kind of scared. I wanted to go where I could feel safe."
Beavers claims that she and other residents have had a tough time talking with Nelson Place's management company KMG Prestige, with her calls going unanswered or not getting a response back.
13 ON YOUR SIDE called the management company Tuesday afternoon, but has not yet heard back.
The other property management they said they would try to set her up with, now also not getting a response.
She said she's in the dark, running out of money, and fears she soon may have nowhere else to go
"They need to do something with us people, the nurses, people, take care of us do what you're supposed to do."
