Single-vehicle wreck claims life of 68-year-old Fremont man

NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. — Law enforcement in Newaygo County said a Fremont man died in a single-vehicle crash Thursday evening. 

Newaygo County Sheriff Bob Mendham said it happened around 9:30 p.m. on Baldwin Avenue near Ridge Road in Sherman Township. 

Dispatchers sent deputies and other first responders to the scene where they found the car had left the road and struck some trees. 

Authorities said the driver, identified as a 68-year-old Fremont man, was pinned inside his car. He died at the scene. 

Crash investigators kept Baldwin Avenue closed for about two hours while they worked to clear the area. 

Michigan State Police, the White Cloud Fire Department and Police Department, Northern Towing, Life EMS, Mid-Michigan Medical Examiners Group and Newaygo County Central Dispatch all helped out. 

The crash remains under investigation.
