NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. — A family in Newaygo County is mourning the loss of a loved one who died while snow plowing his driveway this weekend.
The Newaygo County Sheriff's Office said just before 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, deputies went to a home on W. 24th Street in Dayton Township for a man pinned under a tractor.
Deputies learned a 76-year-old had been snow plowing his driveway, and family members discovered him pinned underneath the machine.
He later died at the scene, authorities said.
The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing, and the Fremont Fire Department, Life EMS, Michigan DNR, and the Newaygo County Central Dispatch assisted deputies.
Much of West Michigan saw snow totals in the double digits as a major winter storm system rolled through the region.
Snow reports in Newaygo County include 11.5" in Brunswick, 12.9" in White Cloud, and 15" in Newaygo as of Saturday.
