NEWAYGO, Mich. — Officials with Newaygo Public Schools say classes will continue as planned Tuesday after an "unsubstantiated" threat was made Monday.
In a letter to parents on the district's Facebook page, Superintendent Ben Gilpin said school staff were informed of an alleged threat Monday evening. The Newaygo Police Department conducted an investigation and determined the threat was unsubstantiated.
"The safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our top priority," reads the letter. "We are committed to working closely with local law enforcement to ensure that all of our schools remain safe places for learning and growth."
Gilpin thanked those who alerted officials of the threat, prompting the investigation. He also encouraged anyone with information on possible threats to use OK2SAY or contact 911 to report it.
This comes after rumors spread that threats were made against both Byron Center Public Schools and East Kentwood over the weekend. Investigators determined there was no credible threat in either instance.
