No injuries after overnight fire destroys garage, damages home in Grandville

It appears the fire spread from an attached garage to the home on Lucas Drive SW.

GRANDVILLE, Mich. — Firefighters have knocked down a fire at a home in Grandville early Friday morning, but not before it destroyed a garage and badly damaged the home.

The fire started after 2 a.m. Friday at a home in the 4400 block of Lucas Drive SW in Grandville, not far from Canal Avenue.

13 ON YOUR SIDE spoke with Kent County Central Dispatch just after 3:45 a.m. They tell us the homeowner was able to get everyone out of the home and there have been no reports of any injuries. Grandville firefighters on scene added that a total of four people and three pets were in the home at the time of the fire, but all were able to get out safely.

A 13 ON YOUR SIDE crew at the scene reports the attached garage appears to be destroyed, while the home is severely damaged.

There also appears to be damage to multiple vehicles parked in the nearby driveway.

The fire chief on scene also told 13 ON YOUR SIDE the heat from the fire melted the siding on a neighboring home.

The fire is now out and crews are working to make sure there are no remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
