Crash leaves multiple people hurt, 1 dead, at Northland Drive and Plainfield Avenue

You're asked to find another route as first responders tend to a crash with injuries on Northland and Plainfield Monday afternoon.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Expect traffic tie-ups at Northland Drive and Plainfield Avenue Monday afternoon as first responders work a crash.

It happened just after 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Grand Rapids post said there were seven vehicles involved. They also said there were multiple injuries, and that this is "going to be a fatal crash."

Initial investigations by MSP show that a vehicle sideswiped multiple vehicles that were in the left turn lane to Plainfield. The first vehicle in that line was rear-ended and pushed into a vehicle traveling southbound on Northland Drive. The driver of the vehicle that initially sideswiped the turning vehicles was declared deceased on scene.

At least one of the vehicles at the scene showed what appeared to be fire damage.

The roadway was closed for around four hours as investigators worked the scene and crews worked to clean up the wreckage.

This is a developing story. Check back in for updates.
