Oakestown student hit by car in Grandville

According to the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Grandville Public Schools, the child was riding their bike when it happened.

GRANDVILLE, Mich. — Just around dismissal time on Wednesday afternoon at Oakestown Intermediate School in Grandville, a car struck an 11-year-old student using the crosswalk.

One Grandville Public Schools official said the child was riding their bike when it happened.

“The students used the button for the lights," Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, John Philo, told 13 ON YOUR SIDE. "Unfortunately a car did not stop for the flashing lights and hit one of our students on their bike. “

The student was walking along the Wedgewood Park crosswalk and heading towards the East side of Wilson. Parents who were nearby when it happened called 9-1-1. Grandville police and fire departments were dispatched to the scene.

The student, who has still not been identified by officials, received medical attention from EMS who arrived shortly after the incident. The City of Grandville said the child was also brought to a nearby hospital as a precaution for what they said are believed to be minor injuries.
