Ottawa County Sheriff's Office announces around 200 body cameras, 120 car cameras approved

The Sheriff's Office said that an extensive process of research ensued to decide on what cameras to go with before they decided on Axon.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — Tuesday, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) announced they will be using Axon Inc.'s cameras for their Body Camera / In Car Camera project.

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners approved the project for the fiscal year 2024/2025 budget. The Sheriff's Office said that an extensive process of research ensued to decide on what cameras to go with before they decided on a contract with Axon.

"This contract award will provide the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office with the state-of-the-art body camera and in car camera video capabilities county wide," read OCSO's statement. "Axon’s body-worn cameras are used by more major law enforcement agencies than any other brand in the world."

Axon also provides law enforcement/first responders with taser energy devices, cloud-hosted digital evidence management solutions, productivity software and real-time operations capabilities. They provide these and both body and in-car cameras to first responders across international, federal, state and local law enforcement, fire, corrections, emergency medical services and the justice sector.

"With the features built into Axon’s solutions, law enforcement can connect with partners, from county officials to neighboring agencies to prosecutors working on a case," said OCSO in its statement.

OCSO said work to begin  the county-wide system build out for the Sheriff's Office will begin in the next several weeks. The project will include around 200 body cameras and 120 car cameras, along with software and operating systems.
