OTTAWA COUNTY, Michigan — A van failed to yield at a Blendon Township intersection Saturday morning and caused a crash that sent one person to the hospital, authorities said.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said a van was driving on Port Sheldon and didn't stop at the intersection of 72nd around 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

The driver, a 55-year-old woman from Coopersville, collided with a westbound Toyota that was driving through the intersection.

The crash caused the van to go into the ditch in the northeast corner of the intersection.

Deputies said the 72-year-old passenger was trapped inside the van before firefighters got him out.

Emergency personnel took him to the hospital for treatment. The Toyota's driver, a 60-year-old from Hudsonville, got checked out at the scene.

Deputies cited the van's driver for failure to yield.
