OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) says they responded to a three vehicle crash in Tallmadge Twp. shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon that left one car engulfed in flames while the driver was still inside.
Police said a 2021 Dodge Charger being driven by a 42-year-old from Grand Rapids and a 2005 Jeep being driven by a 23-year-old from Middleville were both traveling East on Lake Michigan Drive near Trillium.
The two cars bumped eachother, sending the Dodge Charger across the centerline where it struck a 2008 Pontiac being driven by a 27-year-old Grand Rapids resident, heading westbound.
Police did not say which car had caught on fire, but said the driver was removed from the vehicle and the fire was put out.
The driver of the Pontiac passed away from their injuries. The driver of the Dodge was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries.
Lake Michigan Drive was shut down for a few hours while officers investigated the crash and crews worked to clear the scene.
OCSO is continuing to investigate the crash, anyone with information is asked to contact them or use Silent Observer.
