OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — Last week a letter was published on Facebook by Ottawa County Board Chair Joe Moss which detailed a list of complaints against County Administrator John Gibbs. Now, Gibbs has issued his own Facebook post responding to the accusations.
"I attempted to leverage my years of experience working under President Trump and Dr. Ben Carson to serve the Ottawa County commissioners in helping them develop good governance and a coherent policy agenda," read Gibbs' post. "But my efforts were met only with derision and hostility, to the point that they turned on me, making up totally false, defamatory accusations against me that you now see in the news."
Gibbs has also been placed on administrative leave since last week and was stripped of his hiring power.
"The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners last week voted to place me on paid leave from my duties, based on false accusations concocted only after I opposed and exposed corruption in the County," read the post.
Gibbs referenced the year-long but now-resolved conflict with the county and its Health Officer Adeline Hambley as that corruption. He said the county's attempt to pay Hambley to leave her position was a waste of $4 million of taxpayer money. That payment never went through as the County agreed last week to allow Hambley to remain in her position.
More corruption, Gibbs said, was the board hiring unqualified county lawyers based on nepotism.
Gibbs stated he is fighting to be reinstated.
