MARNE, Mich. — Who crashed in this Wright Township cornfield?

That's what the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Aviation Administration are trying to figure out.

The sheriff's office said on Saturday, Aug. 31, someone called to report a plane wreck near 24th Avenue and Arthur Street in Wright Township.

The man said he found a white and red plane crashed in a cornfield north of the intersection.

Responding deputies indeed found a single-engine airplane that had damage to the right wing and propeller.

No one was found inside or near the aircraft, and it was clear to deputies the plane had crashed.

The sheriff's office contacted the FAA.

Now investigators are working with the FAA to identify the plane's owner, determine why the plane crashed and who was flying at the time.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation continues.
