GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Outside Coffee Co. in Grand Rapids announced it's closing its doors in October.
In an Instagram post made on Wednesday, the business announced that after six and a half years, they're officially closing their gates on Oct. 2.
The cafe first opened out of a camper in June 2018.
"Our idea was simple; to create a space for community to gather outside over a cup of coffee," the post said.
The owners had launched a Kickstarter to help get themselves off the ground, expecting a slow stream of support.
The community had other plans.
"The outpouring of support and shared appreciation of the garden concept blew us away and required us to quickly upgrade to our current food truck the following year," the post said.
Over the past six and a half years, the outdoor cafe has hosted artisan markets, marriage proposals, run clubs and coffee in the sun.
The owners said in the post they're "honored" to have been a part of the community in this way. They also said they learned a great deal about how to operate a food truck throughout all four seasons in Michigan.
However, as the age-old saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
"This year, we find ourselves at a fork in the road. We believe the potential of the food truck has maxed out and is not sustainable moving forward, and alternative options prove to be financially out of reach and require more than we’re able to take on," the post said.
The owners said after exhausting every option to keep the location open, the decision was made to close the gates.
"We hope you understand that this decision was made with a deep care and consideration in how it will impact our team and our community," the post said.
The owners said it was the community's support that kept them going throughout the six-and-a-half-year journey.
"Thank you for the support over the past 6 1/2 years, it's not lost on us how rare it is to experience a dream come to fruition and share such a special space with so many amazing humans and dogs," the post said.
The Douglas location of Outside Coffee Co. will remain open.
Woosah Outfitters in Grand Rapids and Douglas will also stay open.
