ROCKFORD, Mich. — One person was injured in a house fire in Rockford early Saturday morning, according to the Rockford Fire Department.
The department said they received a call around 2:20 a.m. for a house fire on Main Street.
The Rockford Fire Department says that the initial call indicated that the fire was in the basement of the home.
When crews arrived at the scene, they said they found the garage and back half of the house on fire.
The department said the fire was mostly out within 45 minutes, and completely out within four hours.
A Rockford Department of Public Services backhoe needed to be called to the scene to demolish a portion of the home to get access to hot spots.
The department is currently unsure what started the fire.
Authorities say that smoke detectors in the home altered the family to the fire, which allowed for them to escape the home.
If you are resident of the City of Rockford and are unsure about the status of your smoke detectors, please contact the Rockford Fire Service Community Risk Reduction Program.
They will come out and give a free home fire safety inspection and ensure that you are protected by the correct number of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If you have questions, or would like to schedule an inspection, email them at RockfordFireService@rockford.mi.us or call us at 616-866-9557.
